We'll start with the decor. You'll never guess what our theme was. Ok maybe you can tell. Rapunzel! Well, Tangled, if you want to get technical.
This covers up our wall o games.
We never did find Flynn Rider. Or Eugene. Rats.
There was a cute idea for a party game online where you print this out with no nose and then print out a bunch of different noses. Then you play pin the nose on Flynn. My kids are too young, but it's a good idea.
I covered up our Heit family/extended family photos from the reunion with beautiful Rapunzel.
Take special note of the floating lanterns, which are an integral part of the Tangled story line. As are the purple flags with the yellow suns on them. I had to explain the significance of the decor to the party guests because many of them have not seen Tangled. It's a cute movie. I do recommend it.
So I made the flags out of a strip of tablecloth and twisty ties. I found a template for the suns online and printed them and cut them out.
The cake is supposed to signify Rapunzel's hair when it is all braided and decorated with flowers at the festival. Each birthday girl got her own cupcake and the rest of us shared the big cake.
The party people.
Making these crowns was an unexpected bonus activity. Yesterday at work Cinderella came to Walmart and let the kids decorate crowns and/or pumpkins and fed them cake. There was a drawing for a free princess dress as well. Sadly, our birthday girl didn't get her name drawn. Anyway, our girls didn't get to go to Walmart and see her, so mommy brought the activity to them. It fit in perfectly with the party theme and activities.
Abby wasn't so sure about hers at first.
But she got accustomed to it after awhile. Aren't my princesses so cute?
The next activity was making our own Pascal friends. Don't know who Pascal is? Watch Tangled!
He likes to stick his tongue in Flynn Rider's ear.
Even though I was standing right there behind the girls I totally missed seeing Brie do this.
Prezzie time! I found these stuffed Ponies at Walmart and I had to buy them for the girls. Chelsea got one too, even though it wasn't her birthday. The girls were all thrilled with them! I was really excited to give them to the girls because I knew they would like them a lot. The ponies were the first thing unwrapped. :)
This furry monkey from Auntie Jennifer was also a big hit with Abby.
Brie wanted to read through this whole flap book upon opening it. But we convinced her not to by throwing more presents at her.
So cute!
Time for cake and ice cream! Three candles for Brie.
And one candle for Abby!
Go at it, kiddo!
She was the messiest "first birthday cake eater" of all my kids, but she still was fairly neat. She thought the lemon cake and lemon frosting were ok. Not her favorite, but it was sweet.
Want some?
This is probably the only taste Brie took. She thought it was yucky. Oh well. The girls don't usually eat cake anyway. They mostly just lick the frosting off.
We were limited on time due to having the party in between General Conference sessions. So painting like Rapunzel likes to do waited until most of the guests left to watch the final session of conference.
Abby didn't actually paint anything. But she did play with the crown stickers and the paint brush a little.
This is the only "smile" I could get out of Brie. This shot showcases the major highlights of the party: painting, making Pascal, eating cake, and making crowns.
Chelsea's highlight shot of pascal, painting, and crown.
Abby's highlight shot of paper, a crown (decorated for her by Grandpa Kelly) and Pascal (made for her by Mommy). Oh, and some of her presents. :)
Overall the party was a success. We shared a taco salad lunch to start off the festivities. It was nice to have the party at our own place. I finally feel like we have enough room to accommodate all the guests/family. Happy Birthday to my sweet Brie and to my sweet Abby! I now have a one-year-old, a three-year-old, and a five-year-old. Crazy. Crazy but good!

Cute party! I especially liked the pin the nose on Flynn Rider game idea.
What's with the above comment?? Weird... Looks like a successful party!! (Even in Boca Raton standards, lol!)
