Random Brian Teaser
I stole this from a friend of mine on facebook. I'm sharing it here instead of there just for kicks and giggles.
3 guys rent a hotel room for $30 and split it 3 ways 10 bucks each. later the front desk clerk realizes he overcharged them $5. So he asks the bell boy to return $5 to the men. On the way the bell boy realizes they wont be able to split the $5 equally so he pockets $2 and only gives them $3. So the men now paid $27 for the room. If they paid $27 and the bell boy only kept $2 then where'd the other dollar go?
Who can tell me the answer?

Why are you randomly teasing Brian?
Ha! He deserves it. Can you answer the question, Preposterous, or are you just trying to distract me while you wrack your brAIn trying to figure it out?
I once had a big book of brain teasers and this one was in there. So I knew the answer at one time. But apparently 15 years and 3 kids later my "brian" is just not what it used to be so I can't remember.
So Rick got the answer right away, but he's not typing it up here. I'll give folks a few more days to realize that there's a new post here and then I'll share the real answer if no one else does first. Maybe I should have offered a prize to the winner. ;)
i'll spill the beans... the total is no longer $30... it's $25. the $27 that they actually paid is the $25 plus the $2 the bellboy kept... so $30 really has nothing to do with it anymore....
is that right? (to get to $30, you'd add the $27 plus the $3 that got returned.)
If you have to know, I happened to be staying in the same hotel the night this happened so I can tell you what happened to the dollar. I was getting thirsty, so I headed to the vending machine to buy a soda. On my way, the bellboy passed me to give the men their money. Realizing I had left my wallet in my room, I asked him if he happened to have a spare dollar to buy a soda and he said, "Sure, here's a dollar." So, that's the answer - I took the dollar!
Ding, ding, ding! We HAVE a winner! Congratulations to Jeff. Just kidding, hehe. Sally gets it right! The three men each got a dollar back, but they still only paid $25 for the room and not $27 as the question leads one to believe. The thieving bellboy accounts for the other two dollars. Good job!
I think the factors have changed and there is some misleading information and an assumption made. The men originally paid $30-$10 each. Then the hotel reimbursed them $5, making the room fee $25, not $27. The Bellboy kept $2, and each man was given $1. That's a total of $25 for the Room, $2 for the bellboy & $1 to each man, totalling $30.
